About this Research Topic
Sarcopenia as a significant risk factor in geriatric orthopedic diseases is related to the health status and life quality of the elderly. The elderly, especially those with geriatric fragility fractures and degenerative orthopedic diseases, will benefit a lot from the present novel and innovative research focusing on sarcopenia. This Research Topic is dedicated to publishing both research and clinical materials related to sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and geriatric orthopedics, as well as to body composition and its physiological and pathophysiological changes in the aging life. We aim to provide new information and understanding in the field of sarcopenia and geriatric orthopedic diseases and hope to improve the prognosis for the elderly with orthopedic disorders.
We welcome original research articles, reviews, mini reviews, and perspectives on the following topics, but are not limited to:
- The relation between sarcopenia and geriatric fragility fracture, including hip fracture, patella fracture, spinal fracture, and upper limb fractures
- Epidemiology studies in sarcopenia and geriatric orthopedic disorders
- Novel and innovative research on the development of sarcopenia in the elderly
- Research and treatment related to sarcopenia and osteoporosis in the elderly, including basic science and clinical research
- Prognosis and outcomes of geriatric orthopedic disorders
Keywords: sarcopenia, geriatric orthopedics, fragility fractures, bone mass density, osteoporotic fracture
