About this Research Topic
The aim of this Research Topic is to cover promising, recent, and novel research trends in understanding how bioenergetic, metabolic, and cellular pathways work together in the mitochondria in coordination with the nucleus to regulate dynamic bioenergetic and metabolic demands, as well as therapeutic targets for age-related diseases and aging.
We welcome the submissions of computational studies (supported by wet lab validation), comparative transcriptome analysis, proteomics, and studies on in vitro, cellular, and animal models. Areas to be covered in this Research Topic may include, but are not limited to:
• mitochondrial function
• mitochondrial biogenesis
• mitochondrial bioenergetics
• mitochondrial metabolic and cellular pathways
• reactive oxygen species generation and defense mechanisms
• interaction of mitochondria and other cellular organelles
• mito-peptides
• mitochondrial related disorders and diseases
• age-related diseases
• metabolic and mito-related aging
• drug targets and drug development for metabolic and mito-related aging
Keywords: mitochondrial bioenergetics, mitophagy, mitochondrial fusion/fission, ROS–mitochondrial oxidative defend systems, mitochondrial disorders and ageing
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
