Respiratory diseases share the most complex processes, including various immune reactions, abnormal embryological development, air- or blood-flow mechanical dysfunction, carcinogenesis, and fibrotic proliferation. Metabolic reprogramming has been identified as one of the most critical pathogenic mechanisms for cellular functional maintenance and adaptation under different etiologies. Therefore, intervention targeting metabolic pathways provide a novel therapeutic strategy.
This Research Topic mainly aims to reveal a updated comprehensive knowledge on therapeutic strategies targeting cellular metabolic pathways in pulmonary diseases. Manuscripts relevant to this field, including Original Research, Review or Meta Analysis articles, are welcome for submission. Potential themes include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Novel interventional strategies targeting metabolic pathways of different respiratory diseases, such as COPD, asthma, acute lung injury, pulmonary embolism, and malignancy.
- Different mechanisms of current medications targeting metabolic pathways for the treatment of respiratory disease.
- Updated discoveries relating to immunotherapies of respiratory malignancy, including immune checkpoint inhibitors and immune cells therapies.
- Pharmacological studies illustrating the crosstalk between cellular metabolic pathways (including carbohydrates, amino acids, lipids, and nucleotide metabolic pathways) that may help to identify new targets for therapeutic intervention.
