About this Research Topic
According to the international classification of function, disability and health the constructs of activity and participation (in life situations) are key determinants and ultimate outcomes for healthy living. Various aspects of development relate to, and impact participation and activity. Therefore, the purpose of this special topic is to focus on the health of children with disabilities. Disabilities, as it relates to this special topic can be defined broadly, and may include infants at risk for disability and or older children transitioning into adulthood.
How to improve the health of children with disabilities is critical towards the health of the general population and known disparities put children with disabilities at more risk for secondary health conditions, such as, but not limited to cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, diabetes as well as depression and lower scores of quality of life. We welcome contributions focused on intervention, examination of key determinants in health and single case studies focused on aspects of health will be considered.
