The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an integral part of their 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and ambitiously take aim at urgent world problems of poverty as well as climate crisis. There are 17 SDGs in total and their shared aim is to bring ‘peace and prosperity for people and the planet’ with the outcome that hopefully this transition towards a consciously more sustainable way of living will help to balance existing inequalities and improve quality of life whilst simultaneously managing the effects of climate change. By focusing on the integral pillars of People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership these goals aim to be achieved through improving health care, education, reducing inequality, and spurring economic growth through sustainable solutions. As a member of the SDG’s Publishers Compact, Frontiers is committed to accelerating progress to achieve these goals.
This Research Topic will be addressing Sustainable Development Goal 7 which is to ‘ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all’. The transition towards more sustainable energy is of paramount importance when creating a more sustainable planet and working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The aim of this collection series will be to highlight greener energy solutions and emerging technologies within the field of energy research across multiple disciplines.
This Research Topic will address SDG#7 from a Bioenergy and Biofuels perspective: harnessing energy from biological resources and feedstock development as well as chemical, biochemical, bioelectrochemical and thermochemical conversion processes.
Keywords:
bioenergy, biofuels, sustainable development goal, SDG7, clean and affordable energy
