About

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease that has become a global public health concern since December 2019. It causes mild to severe respiratory illness with some flu-like symptoms and people with secondary diseases are considered a major risk group. Despite vaccination, people are still infected and died because of COVID-19 infection.

Patients with haematological disorders (e.g., sickle cell anemia, thalassemia) are more vulnerable to COVID-19 due to their clinical complications. Such patients are generally more prone to such viral and bacterial infections, which can worsen their physical condition when combined with COVID-19 infection. Further, some of these patients present immunocompromised conditions, e.g., post-transplant patients.

There is a need to synthesize the impact of COVID-19 for physicians and health care professionals to continue effective management for such patients through this continuing pandemic.

This research topic will address the effect of COVID-19 on the diagnosis, management strategies, and outcomes of patients with haematological disorders.
