Background

Amid increasing concerns about climate change and the dependence from fossil fuels, especially in developing countries, the deployment of Distributed Solar PV (DSPV) generation has become a crucial component of sustainable energy policies in many countries all over the world. Undoubtedly, producing energy from DSPV can play a fundamental role in achieving emission targets and meeting increasing global energy demand, but could also make the power systems more resilient and affordable. The development of economically attractive battery storage systems and the increasing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) can further accelerate their applications in the near future. However, the expansion of DSPV are expected to generate enormous disruptions to the traditional electricity systems creating opportunities as well as many challenges in the energy markets, including operators, regulators, generators, new entrants, networks and also for the economy of a country. Hence, the development and management of DSPV generation systems require complex and multidisciplinary solutions.
