About

Diseases causing blindness, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, optic neuritis, hereditary optic neuropathy, are a Global issue. These diseases often lead to irreversible loss of sigh, which leads to severe morbidity in affected individuals. Previous studies have demonstrated that MRI techniques, which include fMRI, DTI and ASL, have applications in the early diagnosis of blindness-causing diseases. Neuroimaging techniques also have wide-ranging applications in the investigation of the mechanisms underlying visual pathways, and the brain network changes occurring in diseases causing blindness. Therefore, these imaging techniques play a crucial role in the clinical diagnosis and management of blindness-causing diseases.

In this Research Topic, we encourage research from a range of perspectives. We welcome research that uses neuroimaging approaches to shed light on the visual pathways and brain network changes occurring in diseases causing blindness.

Submissions may be related to (but not limited to) the following topics:
- Using fMRI techniques: changes in visual cortex and functional brain network in blindness-causing diseases
- Using DTI techniques: changes of visual pathway and structural brain network in blindness-causing diseases
- Using ASL techniques: changes of cerebral blood flow in visual cortex in blindness-causing diseases
- The application of multi-modal magnetic resonance imaging techniques in blindness-causing diseases
