Genomic, Transcriptomic and Proteomic Factors as a Possible Pathogenic Background of Autoimmune Endocrinopathies

Autoimmune endocrinopathies like Graves’ Disease, Hashimoto thyroiditis, Type 1 diabetes and others are a group of multifactorial diseases about unknown pathogenic background. Numerous studies have showed that their pathogenesis is composed of a strong genetic component and a defined and undefined environmental factors. Changes in the nucleotide sequence of genes whose products may be involved in the pathogenesis of these diseases may affect the process of expression of these genes and subsequently the synthesis of their products. Due to the complex nature of this group of diseases, their pathogenesis remains unclear and their high incidence constitutes a big problem in modern medicine. Therefore, research is needed to define the pathogenetic factors influencing the development of autoimmune endocrinopathies. Defining the specific developmental background factors of this group of diseases taking into account population differences may be important for improving diagnostic procedures. It will also aid in defining risk groups as well as influence the individualization of treatment (pharmacogenetics) and a determination on prognosis. The high population prevalence of this multifactorial diseases is, therefore, the main motivation for the search for genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic components of their etiology.

The aim of this Research Topic is to explore the multifactorial pathogenic background of autoimmune endocrinopathies. It aims to review and discuss the latest research in this field and assist with the take-up of new ideas and research directions.

This Research Topic is intended to provide a platform for a wide range of reviews, research articles, communications, and technical notes related to genetics, transcriptomic and proteomic studies of the pathogenesis, progression, diagnosis, and treatment of this type of disorders. We encourage submissions that focus on a strong genomics component and are devoted to genotyping studies, functional studies of autoimmune endocrinopathies-related genes, pharmacogenomic and pharmacotranscriptomic studies, gene expression analyses and other bioinformatics analyses of autoimmune endocrinopathies using a DNA or RNA sequencing data and studies of proteomic profiling. In addition, we are interested in searching for correlations between these factors and clinical parameters and an attempt to define mutual relations between them. Identification of likely risk factors for disease development will be so interesting too.
