About this Research Topic
This Research Topic aims to cultivate our joint recognition of the current status of oxygen variability in coastal waters, its causes and underlying processes, consequences for marine species, and future projection by gathering case studies from various coastal areas.
Potential submission topics include, but are not limited to:
• Spatial-temporal variations of oxygen decline in coastal waters in new observations, model and data assimilation studies.
• Physical / biological processes and their interactions that control oxygen variations in coastal waters
• Effect of oxygen depletion on marine species, coastal ecosystems and fishery
• Present situation of model skills in simulating oxygen content in coastal waters, including model development, parameter optimization and data assimilation
• Future predictions of oxygen content in coastal waters, including recommendations on desirable socio-economical treatment of coastal areas to avoid future hypoxia
Keywords: deoxygenation, coastal waters, variability, ecosystem, assimilation, physical processes
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
