About this Research Topic
The present research topic aims to join efforts for the comprehension of the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in inflammation, metabolism, and oxidative stress induced by coronaviruses in different experimental models (cells, animals, and humans) and cell types (lung cells, immune cells, kidney cells, neurons, hepatocytes, myotubes, adipocytes, among others), in healthy and pathological conditions (e.g., obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, etc.). Specifically, studies addressing the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in these processes are welcome, including pro- and anti-inflammatory modulation, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress control, signaling pathway activation, and gene expression regulation. In addition, manuscripts addressing the identification of molecular and cellular targets, crosstalk among inflammation, metabolism, and oxidative stress, as well as potential preventive and/or therapeutic interventions are welcome.
We invite authors to submit manuscript related to the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the inflammation, metabolism, and/or oxidative stress induced by the coronavirus infection, as well as potential interventions based on molecular and cellular targets. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
a) Molecular and cellular basis of inflammation, metabolism and oxidative stress induced by coronaviruses;
b) Influence of elderly and comorbidities on inflammatory process, metabolism and oxidative stress during coronavirus infection;
c) Identification of molecular and cellular targets involved in the inflammatory process, metabolism, and oxidative stress;
d) Potential interventions for preventing, reducing, or treating inflammation, metabolism and oxidative stress based on molecular targets of signaling pathways; and
e) Characterization of molecular and cellular targets of potential drugs to prevent, reduce, or treat virus-induced disturbances in inflammation, metabolism, and oxidative stress.
