About this Research Topic
We invite contributions (e.g. original articles, reviews or meta-analyses) which evaluate surgical outcomes of the various surgical interventions for any of the following urologic cancers - kidney, urothelial, prostate, urethral, penile, and testicular cancers.
Particularly, we are interested in papers which have identified and examined the efficacy of certain interventions in the peri-operative period which can help improve outcomes, e.g. enhanced recovery, pathways, minimally invasive approaches, etc. This is much akin to some of our colleagues who are focused on identifying molecular actionable targets for cancers. In our quest for better outcomes for our patients who undergo surgery, we aim to identify actionable “targets” during their surgical journey which are modifiable.
The aim of the current Research Topic is to cover contemporary and future research trends in the field of outcomes urologic oncology outcomes, with straightforward key messages for clinicians interested in this field.
The following topics will be discussed:
1. Prostate – Ambulatory radical prostatectomy
2. Prostate – New techniques in radical prostatectomy
3. Prostate - Neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapy for localized and locally advanced prostate cancer
4. Kidney – Contemporary role of metastatectomy in kidney cancer – is it justified?
5. Kidney – Improving partial nephrectomy outcomes – state of the art
6. Urothelial – Enhanced recovery pathways for radical cystectomy – current status and future directions
7. Urothelial – Optimizing transurethral surgery for bladder tumours
8. Urothelial – Optimizing surgical management in the treatment of localized upper tract urothelial carcinoma
9. Urothelial – Neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapy for localized and locally advanced urothelial carcinoma
10. Urothelial – Role of adjuvant intravesical therapies for upper tract urothelial carcinoma
11. Penile/Testicular/Urethral – Advances in lymphadenectomy for penile cancer
12. Penile/ Testicular /Urethral – Role of retroperitoneal lymph node dissection in modern day management of testicular cancer
