Introduction and general guidelinesThis series aims to highlight the latest experimental techniques and methods used to investigate fundamental questions in Cardiovascular and Smooth Muscle Pharmacology research from drug action and the underlying mechanisms in functional disorders of the heart to pharmacotherapy of cardiovascular disorders and smooth muscle-rich organs. We are particularly interested in articles developing, validating, or adapting new methodologies for cardiovascular or smooth muscle pharmacology in basic or clinical setups. Review articles or opinions on methodologies or applications including the advantages and limitations of each are welcome. We hope to receive submissions spanning the spectrum of cellular/molecular methods all the way to
in vivo experimentation. This Topic includes technologies and up-to-date methods which help advance science.
The contributions to this collection will undergo peer-review. Novelty may vary, but the utility of a method or protocol must be evident. We welcome contributions covering all aspects of Cardiovascular and Smooth Muscle Pharmacology. Submissions will be handled by the team of Topic Editors in the respective sections.
Frontiers in Pharmacology supports the FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability) principles for scientific data management and stewardship (Wilkinson et al., Sci. Data 3:160018, 2016).
This Research Topic welcomes:
• Methods: Describing either new or existing methods that are significantly improved or adapted for specific purposes. These manuscripts may include primary (original) data.
• Perspective or General Commentaries on methods and protocols relevant for Cardiovascular and Smooth Muscle Pharmacology research.
• Reviews and mini-reviews of topical methods and protocols highlighting the important future directions of the field.
For more information on the description and formats of the different article types please see
hereCardiovascular and Smooth Muscle Pharmacology Guidelines - Although the Topic focuses on the cardiovascular system, submissions related to organs with a prominent smooth muscle component (e.g. GIT, lungs, and urinary bladder) are welcome
- Submissions dealing with methods assessing interactions between multiple tissue types (e.g. myoneural coupling, neurovascular coupling, and myoendothelial interactions) are particular encouraged
- Bioinformatic and other
in silico investigations will be considered and are definitely welcome if they include proof-of-concept validation experiments
- Submissions reporting on assays involving natural products must have a clear description of the composition of the form of the natural product used and preferably a detailed structural characterization of the constituents
- Submissions reporting on the utilization of traditional assays for the biological screening of novel molecules or those repurposed for novel uses in cardiovascular and smooth muscle pharmacology will be considered as well
