About this Research Topic
Primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) is an autoimmune disease that is mainly manifested in the exocrine glands. A large number of lymphocytes infiltrate the exocrine glands, which can involve the lung, kidney, nervous system, and other important organs. Among all autoimmune diseases, patients with pSS have the highest risk of lymphoma. The potential pathology of autoimmune related exocrine adenopathy and lymphatic injury is still poorly understood. Furthermore, concerns in the pregnancy and vaccination process in patients with pSS are increasingly recognized. The spectrum and underlying mechanisms of these issues need to be clarified.
The goal of this Research Topic is to provide a forum to advance research on immunological and rheumatological mechanisms, genetic background, personalized diagnosis, and treatment of pSS. We welcome submissions of Original Research articles, Reviews, Mini Reviews, instructive Case Reports, and Clinical Trials, focusing on, but not limited to, the following topics:
• immunopathogenic mechanisms of pSS.
• genetic background of pSS.
• opinions or studies focusing on the classification of pSS.
• new biomarkers, technologies, and predictive algorithms for the evaluation of the severity and progression of pSS associated ILD.
• novel therapeutic options for pSS associated ILD (e.g. small molecules, biologics, anti-fibrosis medications, plasma exchange /immunoadsorption, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, lung transplantation, and their combination).
• novel treatment options for eyes and oral diseases in pSS.
• concerns in the vaccination process in pSS.
• management of reproductive health in pSS.
