Anti-MDA5-Positive Dermatomyositis

Anti-Melanoma Differentiation-Associated Gene 5 positive dermatomyositis (anti-MDA5 DM) is a unique type of dermatomyositis. It is notorious for high mortality when complicated with rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (ILD). The etiology and pathogenesis of this disease are largely unknown. Cumulative clinical studies have been carried out in the past decade; however, no consensus has been made to facilitate risk stratification or to curb clinical trial design. The current treatment protocols are largely empirical with only small-scale, open-labeled trials available. There is still an urgent demand for more efficacious and high-level evidence-based treatment in anti-MDA5 DM-ILD.

This Research Topic aims at increasing awareness and bringing new insights into this rare but significant disease. Clinical, translational, and mechanistic research in a multi-disciplinary manner will be advocated, e.g., rheumatology, dermatology, pulmonology, and other supporting parties.

A wide range of types of manuscripts, including Original Research, Review, Case Report with originality will be welcome and taken into consideration for peer-review and publication. Any clinical or translational studies that are relevant to the topic of anti-MDA5 DM will be welcome and taken into consideration for peer review and publication. We welcome contributions from multiple disciplines, such as rheumatology, dermatology, pulmonology, intensive care, transplantation surgery, nursing, laboratory medicine, to contribute to this Research Topic.
