About this Research Topic
The increasingly complex spider web connecting metabolic dysfunctions and cancer development reveals both distinctive and shared mechanisms underlying different disease indications. It also points to unique opportunities, either through repurposing existing tools or discovering new strategies, to develop targeted therapies against a wide variety of metabolic and cancerous diseases. In our previous Research Topic: Double-edged Swords: Genetic Factors That Influence The Pathogenesis of Both Metabolic Disease and Cancer , we highlighted ten genetic factors/mechanisms that influence the pathogenesis of both metabolic disease and cancer. The attention it generated to date ( >110,000 article views, >22,000 article downloads, >500 citations) signals a fast-growing interest from scientific communities of different disciplines. We aim to highlight more recent advances to inform a diverse audience working on basic and translational research.
We are welcoming contributions (Original Research, Review, Mini-Review, Methods, Perspective, Case Report–etc.) highlighting (but not limited to) the following subjects:
1. Updated knowledge of metabolism- and tumorigenesis-regulating mechanisms in the progression of specific disease indications.
2. Genetic/Molecular/Environmental factors that bridge pathogenic mechanisms between metabolic disease and cancer.
3. Unique methodologies (Proteogenomic, metabolomic, computational, chemical biology–etc.) to identify critical factors linking metabolic dysfunction and cancer biology.
4. Novel therapeutic strategies tailored to target vulnerabilities linking metabolic abnormalities and pro/anti-tumorigenic pathways.
5. Provocative innovations and hypotheses, rooted in existing scientific evidence, designed to reduce disease burden of metabolic disorder and cancer.
Given the success of this first edition and the continuing advances in the field, we are pleased to announce the Volume II. Please, refer to this second volume for current submissions and the most recent updates: Double-Edged Swords: Important Factors Connecting Metabolic Disorders and Cancer Development - From Basic Research to Translational Applications - Volume II.
Keywords: proteogenomic screen, metabolomics, Metabolic dysfunction, cancer, obesity, diabetes, oncogene, tumor suppressor, chemical biology
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
