About this Research Topic
The purpose of this Research Topic is to develop and encourage the global exchange of ideas and knowledge among material scientists, physicists, chemists and other researchers who are active at the frontiers of energy storage. The topic will have a particular interest in the recent advanced materials designs in different metal ion energy storage devices. The goal of this Research Topic is to cover recent materials design strategies to enable genuine metal-ion based energy storage devices with competitive performance. Our aim is to collect solutions to compound problems in one place, such as the influence of morphology and chemical composition of the electrodes on the electrochemical performance of devices.
In this topic, we aim to cover recent research in novel electrodes for metal ion energy storage devices. The electrodes here should be designed and prepared in a rational manner. We welcome submissions of Original Research, Review, Mini Review and Perspective articles, including but not limited to the following themes:
• Materials design for lithium/sodium/potassium/aluminium ion batteries
• Novel electrodes structures to solve issues related to metal ion batteries and capacitors
• Studies on characterization of energy storage mechanism of metal ion batteries
• Advances in electrodes design strategies for metal ion energy storage devices
• Current development of metal ion energy storage devices and future perspectives
Keywords: Metal ion batteries, Metal ion capacitors, Structural design, Reaction mechanism, Energy storage
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
