Increasing evidence demonstrated that exosome plays important roles in several physiological and pathological processes. Recently, exosomes attracted growing attention due to their roles in the diagnosis and therapeutical potential in cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, more details should be considered: (1) What is the biological mechanism of exosomes in mediating development of CVD, including hypertension, myocardial infarction, atherosclerosis and heart failure? Is there any relationship between these processes? (2) What are the roles of exosome-mediated cross-talk between heart and other organs (liver, kidney, lung, brain etc.) on CVDs development? (3) How to achieve large scale production of exosomes and elevate their purity for future clinical usage? In addition, exosomes derived from stem cell, human plasma etc. have been reported effective on attenuating cardiac injury in CVDs, which may be due to their roles in regulating miRs (miR-486, miR-342-5p etc.), HSP70 and cell apoptosis. More studies need to be carried out to investigate the therapeutical potential of exosomes on CVD treatment. We hope to take insight into more instructive scientific findings to promote CVD therapy and guide the clinical application in the future.
In this Research Topic, we would like to create a forum for current advances on biological mechanism linking exosome and CVD, as well as potential therapeutic application of exosomes on CVD treatment.
Subtopics of interest include, but not limited to the subtopics below:
1) The biological mechanism of exosomes in mediating development of CVD, including hypertension, myocardial infarction, atherosclerosis and heart failure. And the relationship between these processes.
2) The roles of exosome-mediated cross-talk between heart and other organs during CVDs development, including liver and heart, kidney and heart, lung and heart, brain and heart.
3) The application of exosomes on CVD diagnose.
4) The strategy of enhancing cardiac targeting capacity of exosomes
5) Methods to achieve large scale production of exosomes and elevate their purity for future clinical usage.
