About this Research Topic
On behalf of the XVII International Sepsis Forum coordinated by Latin America Sepsis Institute (LASI) on May 20-21, 2021, the objective of this Research Topic is to describe where we are in pediatric and neonatal sepsis, and call to actions that can provide an improvement in the prognosis of children with sepsis, presenting the challenges and potential solutions.
In this Research Topic, we intend to describe an overview of pediatric sepsis. Through review studies and clinical trials, we will discuss the epidemiological aspects of pediatric and neonatal sepsis and where we are in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric sepsis. Our goal is to draw attention to the challenges of sepsis in the pediatric population and what the perspectives are.
The scope of this topic covers several topics, such as:
• Diagnosis and treatment of pediatric and neonatal sepsis
• Antimicrobial therapy in pediatric sepsis
• Fluid resuscitation in pediatric sepsis
• Pathophysiology of pediatric and neonatal sepsis
• Pediatric and neonatal sepsis prevention measures (immunization)
• Quality improvement initiatives in pediatric sepsis
• Early goal-oriented therapy in the emergency room: what every pediatrician needs to know
• Nutrition in pediatric and neonatal sepsis
• Multiple organ and system dysfunction in critically ill children
• The role of the endothelium in sepsis
• The role of biomarkers in pediatric and neonatal sepsis
• Refractory shock in pediatric and neonatal sepsis
• Pediatric sepsis research: where are we and where are we going?
