Background

Circadian Rhythm play a fundamental role in nearly all life-systems directly or indirectly under the influence of the 24-hour solar cycle. Circadian mechanisms play a key role for the health of all people living on the Planet Earth. Rhythms of behaviors and other observable outputs have been known for hundreds of years. However, it is only during the last century that we have started to investigate with precision the real meaning of the sleep-wake rhythm and the innumerable other circadian rhythms of the human body for impact on health and longevity. The reason for this relatively late discovery was the need for development of measurement and analysis of different physiological signals in scientific enquiry, such as EEG, EMG, EP, ENG, EOG, HR, hormonal other sophisticated assays, integrated measurements such as polysomnography and of course, wearable devices.

The Goal of the Topic "Circadian Rhythms of Mental Health" is to welcome empirical data and related papers on scientific associations between circadian oscillations of electro/neuro/physiological signals as EEG, EKG , PSG, and essentially any continuously measurable signals and normal/abnormal mental health status. The whole range of psychiatric disorders may be targeted, while bipolar disease is a specific interest. Human and non-human as well as modeling approaches are all welcome.
