About this Research Topic
Rehabilitation is one of five health services which - with a biopsychosocial reference - may create a connection between a person’s need and attention to the person’s environment. The rehabilitation paradigm describes a society’s efforts to ensure a meaningful and optimal everyday life for people with social, physical, cognitive or intellectual limitations or challenges. More than 2 billion people globally are estimated to have rehabilitation needs. These rehabilitation needs are prioritized adequately politically in practice, education, research, and policy, and this is the reason for focusing on the value and impact of rehabilitation, not only for each person, but also for society as a whole.
The lived experience of people is constantly dependent on the specific context. Relatives, neighbors, friends, professionals, other people, the environment, the communities, and societies can influence rehabilitation outcomes. Societies all over the world strive to find ways to improve the lived experience of people with disability by way of effective and efficient rehabilitation efforts to optimize health outcomes.
