Accumulating evidence demonstrates that MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play essential roles in cardiac regeneration: however, a number of questions still remain unanswered. In this issue, we aim to provide an update on the research addressing miRNAs regulatory capability, advancement of miRNAs-related therapeutic strategies and their positive impact on cardiac regeneration and function.
We seek papers that would lead to better understanding of the underlying mechanisms by which miRNAs affect cardiac disease processes. In particular, we aim to include reports on new strategies for the development of stem cell therapies. Understanding how the capacity of mRNAs regenerates the heart can be translated to clinical setting and would contribute to prevention of heart diseases. In addition, elucidation of how miRNAs could be outstanding new biomarkers in cardiac pathologies could determine cardiac disease diagnosis and may give an indication about the response to therapy.
