About this Research Topic
Healthcare personnel, and especially those working in the front lines, are at increased risk of occupational exposure to a variety of infectious agents and onset of illness, including vaccine-preventable diseases. At the same time, healthcare personnel are exposed to not only environmental risks but also to psychological stress, which was intensified in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As such, creating health promoting workplaces is becoming increasingly relevant in a globalizing workplace.
The aim of this Research Topic is to provide an overview of the current occupational risks of exposure and illness in this high-risk group of workers. Although it is expected that the Research Topic will cover a wide spectrum of occupational risks, e.g. from vaccine-preventable diseases to psychological issues, emphasis will be placed on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, including violence against healthcare personnel which has increased dramatically in the wake of the pandemic.
The Topic Editors welcome submissions in the following themes:
• Environmental risks;
• COVID-19: vaccination, vaccine hesitancy, acute illness, post-COVID syndrome;
• Vaccine-preventable diseases;
• Absenteeism;
• Psychological issues;
• Workplace health promotion;
• Violence and aggression towards health care professionals.
