About this Research Topic
Within the yet unlocked potential of plants lies the key to a sustainable future, and therefore Frontiers in Plant Science makes it its mission to publish high-quality interdisciplinary botanical research. We are not only highlighting fundamental research on crop physiology, genetics and cell biology but also linking it to technological advances, systems science and breeding. Over the past 10 years, we have seen technological breakthroughs in gene editing, automation, non-invasive imaging, and artificial intelligence. These breakthroughs coupled with knowledge of fundamental plant biology will allow real-time monitoring of plant health and improvement of agriculturally important traits to provide greater crop yields. Frontiers in Plant Science is proud to lead the way in publishing core research across all crop species. We will continue to connect fundamental and applied research over the next decade.
This Research Topic will provide a collection of perspectives on the state of plant science since the journal’s conception and Chief Editors’ visions for the future.
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
