About this Research Topic
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has resulted in major public health and socio-economic crisis worldwide. Mass quarantine, restriction of social activities and stress on frontline health care workers have caused many psychological and mental health issues such as depression, cognitive disorders and anxiety disorder to emerge.
The deleterious effects of this pandemic form the psychological point of view have been a focus of many researchers worldwide. In this Research Topic, we would like to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms affecting the brain's structure, the chemistry and its functions in psychological disorders. We will also be discussing the social impacts of COVID-19 and how it has substantially affected people's lives. Including frontline health care workers who may require appropriate mental health support and treatment.
We welcome Original Research articles and Review Articles in the following sub-themes:
- How the brain is affected in psychological disorders in the context of COVID-19;
- Molecular pathways, and how they are influenced during infection;
- Social impacts of the disease; and
- Treatment options.
