About this Research Topic
This Research Topic aims at discussing recent progress and applications of integrated POCT systems, including user-friendly, easy-to-use and simple detection platforms; immediate clinical assessment technology; flexible wearable sensors based on nanomaterials; and highly sensitive and specific biosensors. In particular, this Research Topic also highlights the aspects of sample handling platforms, recognition elements and sensing methods, signal transducers and powering devices used to integrate into the POCT system. In addition, the integrated POCT systems should also be widely applied in clinical diagnosis, disease control, poison detection and other fields through the detection of various biomarkers. For example, large-scale rapid POCT systems for infectious diseases are urgently needed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This collection proposes to encompass recent progress and applications of point-of-care testing systems integrated with various flexible materials, microfluidic technology and wearable electronics. The themes covered include but are not limited to:
• Portable biosensing devices, such as paper-based analytical devices, microfluidic biochips
• Integrated user-friendly wearable sweat sensors for point-of-care testing
• A point-of-care testing system that can detect a variety of biomarkers, helping to achieve rapid symptomatic treatment
• Simple and highly sensitive COVID-19 detection methods that can be used for large-scale rapid screening and early diagnosis
• Self-powered point-of-care testing devices based on smart materials that are portable and cost-effective
• Intelligent management-based point-of-care testing devices, including effective and accurate result recording and transmission
