About this Research Topic
Presently it is considered that the prevalence of periodontal disease may have been underestimated by as much as 50% and considers that gum disease is a significant public health concern. Moreover, several research studies have associated gum disease with various systemic diseases and conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, chronic kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, adverse pregnancy outcomes, obesity, metabolic syndrome and cancer. For this issue, we encourage the submission of original research reports, review articles, commentaries, perspectives or short communications in the following topics (but not limited to):
- Epidemiology of periodontal disease
- Risk factors for periodontal disease
- Prevention of periodontal disease
- The inter-relationship between periodontal disease and systemic diseases
