About this Research Topic
The information concerning the microorganisms of anaerobic and aerobic microbiota of industrial treatment bioreactors is limited. The comparison of industrial-scale, industrial wastewater treatment plants, is rarely reported. In addition, the functional key genes/enzymes and keystone microorganisms for complex pollutants in industrial wastewater remain unclear. These hinder the optimization and modulation of microbiota for efficient pollutant removal.
This Research Topic mainly focuses on the use of microbiome and synthetic biology tools, to recover the pathway/genes/enzymes for pollutant removal in industrial wastewater. As well as reveal the relationship between running parameters and the keystone microorganisms, in industrial wastewater treatment microbiota. The microbiome strategies including metagenomics, metatranscriptome, metaproteomics, and metabolomics (used to study the microbiota and the synthetic microbiota for complex pollutant removal of the industrial wastewater), will be addressed. In summary, this Research Topic will cover effective and efficient biological strategies for industrial wastewater treatment, using microbiome and synthetic biology tools, with the aim to enhance microbiota for industrial wastewater treatment in the future.
The scope of the Research Topic includes, but is not limited to, the following aspects:
• Biological strategies applied for efficient pollutant removal in industrial wastewater
• Insight into key genes/enzymes/pathways/microorganisms in wastewater treatment microbiota
• The relationship between running parameters and microbiota during wastewater treatment process
• Microbiome, system biology, and synthetic biology tools applied for industrial wastewater treatment
• Engineered microorganisms and synthetic microbiota for efficient pollutant removal
• Process engineering and implementation of industrial wastewater treatment plants, in relation to pollutant removal.
