In insects, two major endocrine hormones, the steroid hormone ecdysone and juvenile hormone, coordinately regulate a variety of developmental processes, including embryogenesis, larval growth and moulting, metamorphosis, and reproduction.
However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the spatio-temporal specificity of hormone biosynthesis and degradation, the receptor-mediated hormone signaling cascades, the interaction between hormone control and other signaling pathways during insect development remain largely unknown.
Deciphering the regulatory network of biosynthesis, signaling, and functions of insect hormones will help to understand hormone action in insect growth and development, as well as provide the novel ideas for the development of pest control.
This Research Topic welcomes original articles as well as reviews on all aspects of insect hormone action.
