Although a number of exciting, Nobel Prize quality discoveries were made in evolutionary microbiology during the recent 10 years, there is no collection where all of them could be summarized in a good way. Giant viruses (giruses), virophages, nanobacteria, and their role in a living nature were reviewed previously, but there is no one collection where researchers who are not familiar with the field could find all relevant information in a clear and concise manner. So, Frontiers in Microbiology can be an ideal platform for such collection which definitely will become a milestone in microbiology. Many of top level experts in the field were included as potential contributors, therefore the review papers should be of perfect quality.
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
