About this Research Topic
Ecosystem services (ES) are the benefits people obtain from the natural systems. The concept of ES has been demonstrated to be useful in informing policy decision making related to land use, development, and sustainability, and for understanding and highlighting the importance of small-scale agricultural and natural systems managed by the Indigenous peoples and local communities around the globe. This Research Topic will focus on drawing together case studies, concepts, and methodologies that underpin an understanding of connections between ES and policy, sustainability, development, and human well-being, from across the globe.
The case studies drawn together in this Research Topic will:
• Provide a resource for researchers across the globe;
• Better inform policy decision making on development, sustainability, and the use of land, sea, and biodiversity resources;
• Demonstrate best practice in building and promoting the science-policy interfaces through the Ecosystem Services approach;
• Emphasize solutions-focused support for sustainable development.
We welcome the submission of manuscripts on themes including but not limited to:
• Application of ecosystem services (ES) concepts and approaches to informing policies using case studies on land use, sustainability, and development;
• Value assessment of ES from man-made (agricultural, and other land uses) and natural systems informing policy decision making;
• Solutions focused approach supporting sustainable development;
• Conceptual ideas on linking ES with policy.
The case studies drawn together in this Research Topic will:
