About this Research Topic
This Research Topic aims to investigate and advance our understanding of the impacts of future energy systems on the sustainability from building cluster (a group of buildings) level to district/urban level. In this context, the Research Topic focuses on novel theories, research, case studies, short communications and literature reviews, exploring the transition in aspects of technical development, economic evaluation, policy/regulation study, social and environmental assessment of energy systems for building clusters and districts.
We, therefore, encourage all researchers from relevant domains to submit papers to this Research Topic. Contributions on the following themes in relation to district energy systems, but not limited to them, are welcome:
• Future climate adaption solutions to building clusters and districts
• Renewable energy systems integrated within building clusters and districts
• District heating and cooling
• Building clusters transformation
• Advanced control for district energy systems
• Digitalization and automation of energy systems within building clusters and districts
• Social-environmental analysis for building clusters and districts
• Policy and regulation at levels of building clusters and districts
Keywords: future climate, energy systems, built environments, district planning, sustainable policies
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
