About this Research Topic
With the development of neuro-imaging, bioinformatics, big-data technology and next-generation sequencing technologies in the last decade, interdisciplinary joint research has become the mainstream developing trend of neuroscience. These technologies provide powerful tools to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanism underlying the development of brain injury induced neuronal and cellular degeneration. By collaborating with bioinformatics scientists to complete the multi-omics analysis, neuroscientists obtain great opportunities to develop novel therapeutic strategies for cognitive dysfunction. Therefore, researchers should actively break the disciplinary barriers and strengthen communication between clinical and basic research.
This research topic aims to shed more clarification on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of chronic inflammatory response accompanying neuronal and cellular degeneration in order to expand the previous understanding on the pathogenesis of the brain injury induced cognitive disorders and explore possible therapeutic targets for future clinical translation. This research topic mainly focuses on basic research using animal models or cell lines. All clinical research investigating diagnostic/prognostic markers will be considered for publication only if it contains experimental validation. In addition, simple bioinformatics analysis will not be accepted.
We welcome all submissions in the form of Original Research and Review. We encourage submissions that focus on, but not limited to the following themes:
- Mechanisms in the development of chronic inflammatory response induced neuronal and axonal degeneration after brain injury, such as traumatic brain injury, stroke (ischemic/hemorrhagic), subarachnoid hemorrhage and so on.
- Define the factors that trigger and maintain local and global brain inflammation after brain injury.
- Molecular signatures on the diagnosis of chronic inflammatory response induced neuronal and axonal degeneration using next-generation sequencing technologies
- Review of recent research advances on pathogenesis, clinical diagnosis, and treatment of cognitive disorder which related to chronic inflammatory response accompanying neuronal and axonal degeneration
- Translational research or in vivo research of novel therapeutic strategy on regulating immunoinflammatory response to control neuronal and axonal degeneration after brain injury
- Identify the common and disease-specific features of brain inflammation in neuronal and axonal degeneration among different brain injuries and their contribution to cognitive outcomes
