About this Research Topic
There are still many issues remaining to be resolved in the FMT procedures that are based on gut microbiota and their features. Firstly, it is necessary to screen and determine the healthy microbiome of stool donors, helping to thoroughly monitor the safety and efficacy of FMT. Secondly, it is important to implement donor-patients matching on the basis of microbiota-based feces, supplying a better footprint for the precise application of FMT. Thirdly, it is still emergent to trace the dynamics about gut microbiota of donor and patients during FMT from the respective of metagenome and host metabolism and proteome, uncovering a tip of the iceberg of the novel medical intervention technology. To tackle the above-mentioned questions, a large number of investigation points related with FMT are required to be considered, for example, the time points before and after FMT, or the follow-up efficacy after long-term FMT. Meanwhile, the data computing and bioinformatics tools are also needed to decode the multi-dimensional data, including metagenome, virome, metabolites, proteome and the other omics data.
In this Research Topic, we encourage contributions as Original Research and Review articles covering interesting new findings on the gut microbiota-related clinical research. We particularly encourage research that includes:
• Gut microbiota features comparison in the clinical case-control group associated with complex diseases to reveal microbiota features by omics methods;
• Studies on FMT, which should be on the basis of spatial-temporal omics data, e.g., metagenome, transcriptomic, virome, metabolomic data during the process of FMT;
• Bioinformatics method or tools to help elaborate the data mining on multi-omics analysis to understanding the complex inner micro-environment interaction.
