Radiotherapy is an effective treatment for localized and locally advanced prostate cancer. Despite developments in radiation therapy techniques, local recurrences are still common after traditional external beam radiotherapy. HDR brachytherapy is an optimal radiation technique to achieve dose escalation and offer the best chance of cure in primary prostate cancer. Salvage HDR brachytherapy can also be used as an effective treatment for post-radiotherapy recurrence. Despite proven efficacy and safety, HDR brachytherapy remains an underused radiotherapy technique. The optimal dose and fractionation in different indications is still being defined. There is a need for high quality clinical studies to further increase the awareness of HDR brachytherapy’s potential in urology and radiation therapy communities.
The goal of this Research Topic is to publish high quality articles on all aspects of HDR brachytherapy in prostate cancer, including oncological, safety, and quality of life outcomes. We welcome Original Research and Reviews on HDR monotherapy, combination radiotherapy and salvage HDR brachytherapy. Multi-center prospective trial initiatives, future perspectives, opinions and articles dealing with tips and tricks on brachytherapy are also welcome.
