Today, the health of the global water environment is deteriorating, due to various pollutants, climate changes (especially the greenhouse effects and acid rain) and their coupling effects. Many studies have solely focused on the influences of climate change or environmental pollutants on aquatic biota and ecosystem, and made some widely-accepted conclusions. However, in the real environment, the aquatic ecosystem is likely suffering more complex impacts than those exposed to either aquatic pollution or climate change alone. The change of environmental factors can not only alter the physical and chemical properties of water pollutants, but also regulate the physiological status of aquatic organisms, which could lead to more serious and unknown effects on the aquatic ecosystem. Thus, research of climate change coupled with aquatic pollution is becoming a growing priority for government and scientists, and becomes a hot topic in the field of aquatic environmental science and global climate change.
We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the influences of climate change coupled with aquatic pollutions. This Research Topic will become an international forum for researchers to summarize the most recent developments and ideas in aquatic environmental health. Potential contributions include, but are not limited to:
• Influences of environmental factors related to climate changes on aquatic system
• Environmental behavior and ecotoxicological effects of emerging waterborne contaminants
• Mechanisms of interactions between climate changes and aquatic pollutions
• New technologies and methods involved in research of climate change coupled with aquatic pollutions
Keywords:
environmental factors, aquatic toxicology, impact mechanism, monitoring methods, emerging pollutants
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
