Determining how the brain works or becomes dysfunctional is a very complex issue and growing evidence is providing important insights. For instance, dysfunctional memory occurs in several neuropsychiatric disorders, including Alzheimer´s disease (AD), schizophrenia, stroke and post-traumatic stress disorders. Hence, the aim of this call is to collect important advances on brain changes associated with neuropsychiatric alterations, including dysfunctional memory. Notably, serotonin or 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is involved in diverse physiological and pathophysiological processes in mammals and in the treatment of psychiatric disorders. Certainly, 5-HT receptor heterogeneity allows for greater advances, and 5-HT2A/2B/2C receptors are emerging as important tools for preclinical and clinical investigation.
