Mobile phones, smart watches, fitness trackers and a variety of Internet of Things (IoT) smart home devices constantly acquire data about our lives. These data could be used to support healthcare and foster healthy and independent living, with potentially enormous benefits to our societies.
Along with benefits, important challenges come in terms of quality and meaningfulness of the collected data, usability and long term acceptance, transparency, data protection and trustability. The aim of this Research Topic is to explore technological innovations and research studies that relate to these fundamental questions.
Themes of particular interest to this Research Topic include, but are not limited to:
o IoT services and applications for healthcare and independent and assisted living
o Use of IoT in clinical settings
o Tele-health and Home monitoring
o Active and Healthy Aging technologies
o Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence methods for gathering clinically-relevant knowledge from IoT devices
o Security, Privacy and Trust in IoT healthcare services and applications
o Clinical trials and pilot studies involving IoT
This Research Topic has been organized in partnership with the IoT-based Health Services and Applications workshop to be hosted at IoT 2020, the 10th International Conference on the Internet of Things. The Topic Editors welcome public submissions, as well as those based on workshop contributions.
