About this Research Topic
The goal of this Research Topic is to highlight recent developments in synthetic polymer chemistry and functional polymers for biomedical applications. In particular, we wish to emphasize the importance of elegant macromolecular design to the applications of functional polymers. This includes extensively the advances in building new polymerization technologies (e.g. photopolymerization or multicomponent polymerization), and also includes engineering polymers at the molecular level with desired end group, side group, monomer sequence and composition, as well as chemical and physical properties. The power of contemporary synthetic polymer chemistry will undoubtedly continue to drive the emergence of new functional polymers, which will enable a broad variety of biomedical applications.
This Research Topic aims to highlight the latest developments in the design and synthesis of functional polymers for biomedical applications. We welcome high-quality original research and (mini)review articles covering the following areas:
• Design and synthesis of novel functional polymers for biomedical applications (e.g. antimicrobial polymers, biodegradable polymers, surface polymer brushes, inorganic-organic hybrid polymers, etc.)
• New polymerization technologies (e.g. photopolymerization or multicomponent polymerization)
• Macromolecular design of polymers for imaging and drug delivery
• Engineering strategies of biomolecule-polymer conjugates
