About this Research Topic
As such, this Research Topic aims to address the clinical impact of viral diseases in pregnancy and the puerperium by providing an overview of clinical outcomes (morbidity, mortality, prognosis) of the pregnant woman as well as of the embryo or infant, and further, therapeutic interventions including measures of prevention of the aforementioned viral diseases.
Submitted manuscripts should aim to enhance awareness of viral infections in pregnancy and the puerperium as well as to provide either current epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic data. Here, epidemiological data are of interest if coupled with the aforementioned parameters in addition to SARS-CoV-2 which should also be discussed, notably due to its novelty. Papers describing the pathophysiological impact of viral diseases in pregnancy and the puerperium if of sufficient novelty will also been given consideration. Accordingly, this Research Topic we welcomes:
• Original papers including randomized studies, controlled or open-label, and cohort studies (both prospective and retrospective);
• Review papers or meta-analyses will also be accepted if they add to the literature in terms of novelty;
• Case reports will not be given consideration
Keywords: Infection, Viruses, Pregnancy, Puerperium, HIV, COVID-19
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
