The incidence of chronic lung diseases is increasing; asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, interstitial lung diseases forms a real health problem worldwide. The progress in new therapies and individual qualification to treatment dictate the necessity to search for phenotypes of diseases. There is growing body of evidence that sex diversity has influence on the nature of the disease. The epidemiology of lung diseases, their course, the susceptibility to risk factors particularly to tobacco smoke is different in women and men.

However, the number of studies and reports on these differences and the specificity of lung diseases in women are relatively scarce. It seems that the presentation of problems related to diseases of respiratory tract in women can be a major challenge of original importance.
