About this Research Topic
Ultrafast optics is one of the most important fields in science and engineering. Technology in this field plays an important role in a variety of applications in our daily life, including femtosecond laser imaging, optical fiber communication systems, mechanical cutting and micromachining, national defense military, and biomedicine. Due to their excellent non-linear optical properties, low-dimensional materials have emerged as promising saturable absorbers in many applications such as fiber lasers, photonic diodes, and optical switches. They provide a new research direction for the field of ultrafast optics.
In this Research Topic, we are interested in articles that share the latest developments and achievements in ultrafast lasers, fiber optics lasers, and photonics for low-dimensional materials. This Research Topic covers all theoretical and experimental studies of low-dimensional materials related to optics, photonics and photoelectronics. Specific areas of interest in low-dimensional materials include (but are not limited to):
• Low-dimensional materials as a mode locker or Q-switcher in fiber lasers
• Integrations of low-dimensional materials
• Non-linear properties of low-dimensional materials
• Photonic and optoelectronic devices
• Fiber laser techniques and applications
• Ultrafast optical phenomena
• Applications of low-dimensional materials in communications, imaging, and sensing
