About this Research Topic
Biofuels are promising alternatives to fossil fuels with tremendous environmental and socio-economic benefits. There has been a considerable deal of research and development carried out on the production of biofuels in the last two decades. However, there is still a huge potential for achieving more cost-effective and efficient biofuel production processes through the application of nanotechnology. The exceptional properties of nanomaterials (nanocatalysts) such as high surface area, catalytic performance, crystallinity, durability, energy storage capacity, etc. offer great potential for optimizing biofuel production systems. Nanocatalysts could also serve recovery, reusability, and recycling purposes.
This Research Topic is designed to attract the state-of-the-art recent developments in fabrication, modification, and optimization of advanced nanocatalysts and nanostructured materials for biofuel production processes. The editorial team is ambitious to formulate a top-quality issue that will serve as the “go-to” resource for researchers working in the field, facilitating further improvements in biofuel production and utilization processes. A special focus will be placed on the critical role of nanocatalysts in biofuels process optimization. The editorial team welcomes original research articles, review articles, and case studies, from researchers, academics, industrialists, policy makers, government agencies, and other stakeholders, dealing with but not limited to the following research areas;
• Fabrication, modification, and optimization of nanocatalysts for biofuel production
• Homogenous catalysts for biofuels (acid and alkaline catalysts)
• Heterogamous catalysts for biofuels (solid acid, solid base, and enzyme catalysts)
• Exploration and utilization of non-food feedstocks such as biomass, food waste, and other waste streams for catalytic production of biofuels
• Role of nanomaterials in energy efficiency and storage, transportation, and application of biofuels
