About this Research Topic
Recent advances in the design and construction of photocatalysts have resulted in significant interest in their applications, particularly in sustainable fuel production. Compared with UV irradiation, which has been well studied in the past decade, the use of light produced from renewable sources (solar or otherwise) in photocatalysis can be much more efficient without the requirement of harsh reaction conditions. This therefore offers promising technology to meet the growing need for energy efficiency through environmentally friendly chemical processes. However, there remain significant research challenges in the design of the photocatalytic materials with improved light harvesting capability and stability during reaction processes.
The purpose of this Research Topic is to showcase the latest developments in efficient and robust photocatalysts that have the potential to address key topics in renewable energy production, including hydrogen production and conversion of CO2 to hydrocarbon fuels.
We welcome original research articles addressing the following topics:
• Photocatalyst material design and construction
• Photocatalysis in water splitting
• Photocatalysis in hydrogen evolution
• Photocatalytic conversion of CO2 to hydrocarbons
• Reaction mechanisms of photocatalysis in renewable energy applications
In addition, this Research Topic accepts critical review papers and perspectives on the above topics.
