Frontiers in Built Environment publishes its first eBook

We are very proud to announce the publication of Frontiers in Built Environment‘s first eBook: “Critical Earthquake Response of Elastic-Plastic Structures Under Near-Fault or Long-Duration Ground Motions: Closed-Form Approach via Impulse Input” which can be accessed and freely downloaded here: fron.tiers.in/go/J3u5ts   Containing four original research papers, in addition to the Specialty Grand Challenge article, on the critical earthquake response of elastic-plastic structures under near-fault or long-duration ground motions, this eBook represents the culmination of outstanding recent research by Specialty and Field Chief Editor, Prof. Izuru Takewaki. Those who avail of the opportunity to host a Research Topic in Frontiers in Built Environment can also benefit by collating their curated collection of papers in a free eBook upon successful closing of their Topic. —   Launched in February 2015, Frontiers in Built Environment is already establishing a solid reputation and setting a standard for high-quality, open-access publishing in a number of sections in the built environment field. Specialty sections currently open for submission include:   Bridge Engineering Digital Architecture Earthquake Engineering  Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning Hydrosphere Structural Materials Structural Sensing  Sustainable Design and Construction Wind Engineering and Science   We will also soon be launching the following specialty sections:  Urban Science Transportation and Transit Systems […]

First e-book published in Environmental Science: “Circulation Weather types as a tool in atmospheric, climate and environmental research”

We are delighted to announce the publication of a new eBook presenting cutting edge themes on weather systems: “Circulation Weather types as a tool in atmospheric, climate and environmental research”, published under Frontiers in Environmental Science, hosted by: Alexandre M. Ramos, David Barriopedro, Emanuel Dutra. We hope this achievement serves as a stepping stone to inspire future research topics in our journal. You can take a look at the eBook here: http://fron.tiers.in/go/9XxBuW Research Topic webpage: http://fron.tiers.in/go/ddMyGa Topic Description: Classifications of circulation weather systems have a long history in meteorology and climatology. Starting with manual classifications over specific regions of the globe, these tools (generally called “catalogs of synoptic types”) were restricted mainly to weather forecasting and historical climate variability studies. In the last decades, the advance of computing resources and the availability of datasets have fostered the development of fast and objective methods that process large amount of data. In recent years numerous methods of circulation type classification have been designed, showing their usefulness on a wide range of applications in scientific domains related to weather, climate, and environment. This Research Topic highlights methodological advances in circulation weather types and also their applications to different research areas. The articles included in […]

STAFF PICK: Neuroscience perspectives on Security: Technology, Detection, and Decision Making

Meet Nikolaos Anagnostos. Nikolaos is a production coordinator who has been with Frontiers since 2011. As part of the production team, he sees a lot of articles come through and helps manage them along the way. His staff pick is an e-book, which is a collection of articles that were the result of a Frontiers Research Topic. The e-book is free to download. Below is why he chose this e-book. E-Book Staff Pick: Neuroscience perspectives on Security: Technology, Detection, and Decision Making Edited by: Elena Rusconi, Kenneth C. Scott-Brown, Andrea Szymkowiak From tracing the neural markers of successful lying and discussing the potential use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) as a lie detector in criminal courts, to a debate on whether non-invasive brain stimulation should be used in security and military services and a closer look at CCTV operators or at an X-ray security scanner offering multiple views of objects as image sequences: the articles included in this e-book present a wide range of security science topics, while examining the multiple social and ethical questions that arise. Personally, I found it interesting to read how much effort is done to overcome the artificial environment that is inherent in these experimental […]

Frontiers publishes 600th e-book

This week Frontiers published its 600th e-book. Our latest e-book, entitled “Animal Allergens: Common protein characteristics featuring their allergenicity” can be found in Frontiers Books. Frontiers Books is similar to an online bookstore, where you can find e-books on a variety of specialty research topics.  Content selected for our prestigious e-book collection is generated from Frontiers Research Topics, Frontiers Themes or Focused Reviews.  In addition to providing a downloadable e-book of the entire article collection, Frontiers Research Topics provides a unique way for  leading researchers to manage the publication of a collection of peer-reviewed articles around their own area of research. EPUB and PDF versions of each e-book are available for free. Our top 5 e-books for 2015 so far include: Mechanisms of antibiotic resistance Plant responses to flooding Brain and Art Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Healthy and Diseased Brain Networks Extracellular Nucleotides in the Regulation of Kidney Functions Have an idea for a Frontiers Research Topic e-book?
