Misinformation website – alerting our community

Frontiers has been listed on a misinformation website called predatoryreports.org. The website’s ownership and purpose are deliberately unclear, and the information provided both in its blog and journal listings is incorrect. The website claims to help researchers to identify trusted publishers, however, its lack of accountability, ethical oversight, committee support, or appeal process shows that its content cannot be relied upon. We do not advise our community to refer to this website as a trusted source of information and consider it to be yet another predatory index, which intentionally seeks to mislead the research community. It also seeks to undermine the commitment and work of those organizations that support the open science movement, as well as our authors and entire editorial community who support our mission of making all science open. Frontiers is accredited by and is a member of major publishing regulatory and ethical organizations, adhering to the highest quality standards and best ethical practices. These include COPE, OASPA – Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association, and DOAJ – Directory of Open Access Journals. Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences signs publishing agreement with Frontiers

The journal Acta Virologica will move to gold open access publisher Frontiers in April, as part of an agreement signed by the Institute of Virology from the Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (BMC SAS). Credit: Frontiers The agreement is Frontiers’ first publishing partnership in Slovakia and marks an important step forward for open access in the field of virology. Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Silvia Pastorekova, director general of BMC SAS, said: “We are excited to partner with Frontiers and bring Acta Virologica to a wider audience. Frontiers’ commitment to open access and innovative publishing solutions help us achieve our mission of advancing virology research and improving global health.” Acta Virologica is an international journal focusing mainly on molecular and cellular virology, publishing fundamental research related to human, animal and plant viruses. Areas of interest range from the morphology of viruses to vaccines and antiviral drugs. Established in 1957, the journal was previously published under a hybrid model by AEPress. Acta Virologica will open for submissions on Frontiers’ fully open access platform in spring 2023. East Carolina University forms publishing agreement with Frontiers

East Carolina University has formed an institutional membership agreement for open access publishing with Frontiers. This institutional agreement means that eligible researchers may publish in any Frontiers journal at 50% cost to them and with a simplified process. The university library supports its researchers in making their research more widely available. This agreement will further encourage East Carolina University researchers to publish open access, increasing the volume of research openly available. While this reduces costs for the researcher, it also benefits the wider research community and the public at large.   Information for researchers  If you are an East Carolina University researcher, please select East Carolina University in the payment information section (“Frontiers institutional members”) when submitting your article. Frontiers will verify your eligibility with the library and, if confirmed, 50% of the APC will be paid by the library upon acceptance. You will receive an invoice from Frontiers for the remaining 50%. We would like to announce that the University of Bath has joined the national open access deal agreed between Jisc Collections and Frontiers.  This landmark deal provides a simplified and streamlined route to open access publishing for researchers in the UK, who publish 7% of the world’s research.    This institutional agreement means that eligible University of Bath researchers may publish in any Frontiers journal at no cost to them and with a simplified process. Articles may benefit from a 10% membership discount.   The University of Bath Library supports its researchers in making their research more widely available. This agreement will further encourage University of Bath researchers to publish open access, increasing the volume of research openly available. Frontiers institutional partnerships update – spring 2023

The latest news on our collaborations with research institutions, libraries, consortia, and funders. Welcome from Frank Hellwig, Institutional Partnerships Development Manager The first months of 2023 brought several key additions to our community of institutional partners. Through these new partnerships, as well as through our longstanding relationships with many other institutions, we are pleased to be able to support a growing number of researchers, librarians, and consortiums in the global transition to open access. As of spring this year, we are happy to report that more than 650 institutions worldwide now benefit from partnership agreements with Frontiers. We look forward to welcoming more partners throughout the year, and, as our community grows, we will continue to work to better understand the preferences and needs of institutions and researchers. New partnership announcements We have announced several new partnerships and renewals over recent months. World Economic Forum Frontiers has entered into a new partnership with the World Economic Forum (WEF). Rachel Schattman – Sustainable management & community engagement are the keys

Author: Rafa Tasnim Dr Rachel E Schattman is an Assistant Professor of Sustainable Agriculture at the University of Maine School of Food and Agriculture, where she leads a group of graduate students and staff scientists in the Agroecology Lab. She is also a fellow with The George J Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions and an associate of the University of Maine Climate Change Institute. Previously, Rachel served as a postdoctoral researcher at the United States Department of Agriculture Northeast Climate Hub, where her work focused on climate change and adaptation from agricultural perspectives, as well as designing curricula for adult learners. In this blog post, we will discuss accessibility to clean water and sanitation as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 through the lens of Rachel’s research expertise and perspectives on sustainable agriculture and climate change. University of Glasgow forms publishing agreement with Frontiers – JISC national open access deal

We would like to announce that the University of Glasgow has joined the national open access deal agreed between Jisc Collections and Frontiers.  This deal provides a simplified and streamlined route to open access publishing for researchers in the UK, who publish 7% of the world’s research.  This institutional agreement means that University of Glasgow corresponding authors may publish papers which acknowledge funding by UKRI, Wellcome Trust, British Heart Foundation or Cancer Research UK in any Frontiers journal at no cost to them. Funds may be limited however, and authors should seek confirmation by contacting research-openaccess@glasgow.ac.uk. Norway renews national deal with Frontiers

Frontiers announces that its national agreement with Norway, first signed in 2020, has been renewed for 2023. The agreement, signed by the Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research (Sikt), simplifies the publishing process for Norwegian researchers who publish in Frontiers’ journals. Ronald Buitenhus, head of institutional partnerships at Frontiers, said: “Frontiers is delighted to continue to support Norway in the transition to open science through the renewal of this agreement. We look forward to continuing our work together to empower research communities and accelerate the impact of science in society.” Currently 36 institutions and research centers benefit from the terms of the agreement. New institutions can register to participate at any time and there is no annual fee to join. What are the benefits of joining the partnership? Frontiers streamlines the publishing process for researchers and their institutions with tailored, flexible, and financially sustainable models. Frontiers and Kristianstad University form open access publishing agreement

Kristianstad University (Högskolan Kristianstad) supports their authors in publishing open access. As part of this support, eligible authors from the Kristianstad University will benefit from a 10% discount under the terms of the Sweden Open Access Publishing Framework Agreement. Eligible authors are corresponding authors of a given article affiliated with Kristianstad University. Information for authors To submit your article under this institutional agreement, it is recommended you submit with an email domain affiliated to your institution. When submitting your article, please select ‘Kristianstad University’ under the Institutional Agreements menu in the invoice section. Frontiers will then verify your affiliation with Kristianstad University, and if confirmed, a 10% discount will be applied. The discounted invoice will be sent to you via the university. Climate crisis calls world’s top scientists to Montreux

~ Experts gather in Montreux to chart a course toward sustainable future ~ World-renowned scientists and thought leaders will gather next month at the Frontiers Forum Live in Montreux, Switzerland, to address critical issues including the climate crisis, improving global health and well-being, and preserving biodiversity. In the first in-person Frontiers Forum event since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, Frontiers has announced an exceptional line up of speakers, renowned researchers, and influencers. Dr Marie Soulière engages in AI debate

Frontiers’ senior publishing manager Dr Marie Soulière is participating in two debates on the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scholarly publishing. The use of AI in scholarly publishing extends beyond production and review processes, as the launch of ChatGPT recently demonstrated. AI can be used to write academic papers with significant implications for research integrity. Marie Soulière, senior publishing manager at Frontiers, was heavily involved in developing Frontiers’ artificial intelligence review assistant (AIRA) and is participating in two debates on the boundaries of AI. “This is a very timely discussion on the ethical implications of AI in publishing”, says Marie Soulière. “We welcome everyone to participate in the debate and contribute to future guidelines on the use of AI.” Webinar on risk versus potential In the webinar “AI in Scholarly Publishing—Risk Versus Potential”, organized by the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), the discussion will focus on authorship by AI.
