Join our new section on Physical Oceanography as a:

  • Specialty Chief Editor 

  • Associate Editor

  • Review Editor

We are also looking for new Specialty Chief Editors for our existing sections on:

Specialty Chief Editor applications will be reviewed by the Field Chief Editor of the journal. Associate and Review Editor applications will be reviewed by the Specialty Chief Editor of each section.

Since its launch in January 2014, Frontiers in Marine Science has grown into the largest and most comprehensive open-access journal for the marine community with over 350 articles published and over 2,300 editors on our editorial boards.

HOW DO I APPLY?

Step 1: Select the specialty section you would like to apply for.

Step 2: Select the role you would like to apply for (please see below for each role’s requirements).

Specialty Chief Editor: Frontiers Specialty Chief Editors are leading academics and active experts in their field, typically full professors from a recognized institution with a proven track record of publications in international, peer-reviewed journals and with editorial experience.

Specialty Chief Editors define the editorial scope for their specialty and have the responsibility for leading and supervising the activities related to their section and providing support and guidance to the editorial board.

Specialty Chief Editors are expected to build and maintain a strong board of Associate Editors to ensure manuscripts are handled by relevant experts and that the peer review is of the highest quality, efficiency and transparency. The Specialty Chief Editors are empowered to act at all levels and at any stage of the peer-review process in a system of editorial “checks and balances.”

Associate Editor: The Associate Editors are essential in setting the standard for a section. Their main responsibilities will consist of appointing 10-15 Review Editors, submitting a free of charge Inaugural Article, and overseeing the review process of manuscripts submitted to the section. Associate Editors should be established experts in their field and have previous editorial experience.

Review Editor: The primary role of Review Editors is to provide an expert review of submitted manuscripts in a collaborative, transparent manner, thereby safeguarding the review process and controlling the quality of articles published in the journal. Review Editors will be listed on the editorial board and should have experience reviewing manuscripts.
