Peyronie's disease (PD) is a common genital disease featured by fibrosis of the tunica albuginea in men. Due to penile malformations (deformities, pain, and shortening) and erectile dysfunction, patients with PD were vulnerable to suffering from psychiatric disorders. The current study aims to summarize the psychological impacts on PD and its treatments via a comprehensive review. A review was performed by employing the common electronic databases, including the MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and PsychINFO, to identify the relevant studies. Seventeen clinical studies were finally included for analyzing. According to these eligible studies, the prevalence of depression and anxiety ranged from 12% to 62% and 7% to 75%, respectively. Other types of psychiatric disorders in PD patients included distress, mood disorder, self-injurious, isolation, anger, loss of confidence, frustration, and loss of self-esteem. Excepting for intralesional collagenase, some specific treatments, i.e., dermal graft repair, inflatable penile prosthesis, antidepressants, and psychotherapy could improve PD-induced psychological disorders. Clinicians should provide a complete perspective on psychological aspects in counseling PD patients as well as their partner. This review summarized the latest evidence focusing on the psychological impacts on PD and its various treatments. We failed to conduct a meta-analysis, which might be one of limitations of our study. The prevent review highlighted the psychological burdens significantly affected individuals with PD.
