Orogenic belts, including accretionary and collisional type, provide a record of long-lived convergence between ocean-continent plates and continent-continent plates. The rich tectonic history of orogenic belts (e.g., the western Pacific and Himalayan orogens) have inspired a myriad of new tectonic concepts and geodynamic models at the forefront of modern solid-earth science. Although new advances (e.g., observations and models) enrich the understanding of collisional dynamics, fundamental questions regarding the diversity of subduction/collisional zones and the subduction/collision processes still remain. For instance, the investigations of detailed lithospheric structures, crust-mantle interactions, and melting processes have been largely underacknowledged. Therefore, we would like to draw attention to this tectonic environment and warmly invite a broad spectrum of geoscientists, including structural geologists, petrologists, sedimentologists, geophysicists, and numerical modelers, to present their studies to this interdisciplinary symposium.
This Research Topic aims to bring together state-of-the-art studies on crust-mantle interactions of both the India-Eurasia convergence system and the Pacific-Eurasia convergence system by identification of their lithospheric architecture, which would shed new lights on portraying deep geodynamics beneath Southeastern Asia.
This Research Topic is generally in the scope of geophysics and geodynamics, whose specific themes include, but are not limited to:
• Crust-mantle interactions of the India-Eurasia and Pacific-Eurasia convergence systems
• Identification of the lithospheric architecture of the India-Eurasia and Pacific-Eurasia convergence systems
• Tectonic interactions of the India-Eurasia and Pacific-Eurasia convergence systems
• Numerical modeling on tectonic interactions
