In recent years, the invention of advanced materials has become an area of significant scientific and technological interest, due to its applications in the design and manufacture of innovative products in various fields. One of those is new technologies applied in water and energy systems. Examples of these include solar cells, filters for water, materials used for adsorption of pollutants, and photocatalysis among others. These new technologies are necessary due to the growing demand for energy and the decrease in the availability and quality of water. These issues coupled with the increasing effects of climate change make it necessary to look for innovative alternatives to remediate these problems.
From the perspective of environmental sustainability, it is essential to consider the use of renewable raw materials or materials which exert a low impact on the environment. Making it a significant priority to manufacture new applications of advanced materials in treatment techniques.
The objective of this Research Topic is to publish a variety of investigations relating to hot topics of advanced materials for use in water quality and wastewater treatment. In addition, advanced materials which are energy-saving, including energy cells, as well as the design and optimization of materials from forest residues such as nanocellulose and other natural polymers. This improvement in developing the applications of advanced materials in both water and wastewater treatment in order to optimize the energy system will lead to an increase in sustainability moving forward. This collection aims to highlight the requirement for these treatments as well as identify and minimize the challenges faced by climate change in the environment.
